March 15, 2020

Dear Students, Parents, and Staff,  As you know from earlier communications, RSU 29 schools will be closed beginning Monday, March 16. We had originally specified that we would be closed through Friday, March 27. Just moments ago,Governor Mills has declared a state of civil emergency and has closed all schools indefinitely and until further notice. RSU 29 staff will have workshop days on Monday, March 16 and Tuesday, March 17 in order to plan to provide remote learning to all students.  Additional information from the district regarding how to access learning materials for all students will be provided in the coming days.  It is our hope to disseminate learning packets starting Wednesday, March 18th

Remote learning is new to us all. We know that it cannot replace having our teachers in front of your children. We look at this work as a way to keep our students engaged as best we can for as long as is practicable.

We will begin providing meals to students in a similar manner to our summer program. We will provide in-depth information on sites and times tomorrow. Please check this website frequently for information.

We know that given the quick notice of this closure, there may be items at school that you may need to pick up for your child. Please call your school’s main office and you will be able to make arrangements to pick up these items.  If you had a scheduled IEP meeting, it will be rescheduled.

Thank you for your ongoing support and understanding. Our team is literally working around the clock to stay abreast of developments and be intentional and collaborative in decision-making and communication. The support and understanding that has been proffered by our communities has been a welcome relief during these long and difficult hours.

Best regards,

Ellen Halliday

Superintendent of Schools RSU 29
